These pictures, taken at the U.S. Naval Base in Charleston, S.C., show one of the six 32-pounders (throw weight) carried by the CSS ALABAMA.
Included are photos showing the 32-pounder being removed from its packing crate and salt water bath.
Mr. Shea McLean is seen examining the sighting mechanism used on the 32-pounder. This is an important find, as to this point we have had no drawings of this mechanism. A close-up shows the manufacturers marks on
the 32-pounder. Mr. McLean is an underwater archaeologist and conservator who has recently joined the project to assist in the preservation of CSS ALABAMA artifacts.
