(June 7, 2004 - Cherbourg, France) A large ceremony will be held in Cherbourg during September at which Cherbourg will be designated as anA merican Civil War Battle site. It has been said that every French dignitary is likely to be present at this historic event. The designation of the site of the battle between the Confederate States Steamer ALABAMA and the United States Steamer KEARSARGE is being prepared through the auspices of the American Civil War Preservation Trust. The United States Navy Attache' will also attend, along with key members of the CSS ALABAMA Association (USA). A plaque inscribed in both French and English will be installed at the Cite de la Mer in Cherbourg harbor.
